Anthony Cox Gears Up for a Powerful 2025 at Gamecock Indoor Opener

Edward Graves

The 2025 track and field season begins this Saturday, January 11, for Jamaican sprinter Anthony Cox at the Gamecock Indoor Opener hosted by the University of South Carolina. Cox, a 400m World Championships silver medalist, has set his sights on breaking barriers in the indoor 400m this season.

With a personal best of 45.43 seconds, achieved on June 25, 2022, Cox is no stranger to elite performances. However, as of December 31, 2024, the top-ranked male 400m runners have times faster than his PR, and the World Championships qualifying standard for 2025 is set at 44.85 seconds, just .058s away from Anthlony’s best. These challenges fuel Cox’s drive to improve, and his early season opener is a key step toward achieving his goals.

“The Gamecock Indoor Opener is the perfect place to launch my season,” said Cox. “The atmosphere, the competition, and the support from Coach Tim Hall and meet director Maurice Campbell make this an exciting opportunity to push my limits.”
